bawwwww

mostly i'm tryng to come up with a ton of scenarios.
* he's alive and kicking and apparently dean talking cas into using his body to have sex with a hooker doesn't matter at all HA HA wtf (i guess he could have given cas permission but idk)
* he's alive and kicking but he's going to get killed somehow in that same ep
* he's alive but cas didn't know it because he was/is comatose or whatever, poss. couldn't tell due to the loss of angel mojo
* he's alive and undamaged which means the possibilities of him going home to his family and cas going back to heaven never to be seen again when the season finishes increase. :[ call me a bad fan or whatever but i doubt i'd watch a 6th season if cas isn't around. :|
of course any of these would make writing dean/castiel a bit (more) difficult, but there have always been ~ways~ around the jimmy issue, so i'm not overly worried.
and lets not mention the anna/castiel panel wtfery which just makes me go ಠ_ಠ
so all of this combined with this dull, uneventful crapfest of a day, has got me feeling a little down. i'll go out and spend my birthday money tomorrow see if that cheers me up some.
(by the way, i just had to request an extension for my

My thoughts exactly. You've highlighted all the reasons this spoiler made me feel bad-squirmy too. :|
As for Castiel/Anna - lol. I was reading these reports about Misha and Julie playing some scene like a breakup and I was going "Siblings? Hello? Siblings?" It just seems weird to put such heavy emphasis on the status of the angels as brothers, Michael and Lucifer in particular, Gabriel hammering it in, brothers not just in name but as having an actual family dynamic, and then turn around and go HEY CASTIEL AND ANNA ARE TOTALLY GETTING IT ON NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK. It makes me feel nasty. And from the panel, it sounded like it's not canon (yet), so the writers could be intending it to come across as very sibling-esque, but I want to go up to the actors and be like SRSLY GUYS? SIBLINGS?

urrrggg this so much. it's just, gaaah. it's the bad-squirmy feeling again.
i can just see the writers thoroughly wiping their asses with their own angels=family "rule" and offering some bullshit explanation to make cas/anna an exception. and i would be so squicked and pissed off, you don't even know.

BAD-SQUIRMY happens every time I think about this, lolol. Like you said, it would be total bullshit; breaking their own story for the angels because whenever someone who is male (-shaped) and someone who is female (-shaped) care for each other, it has to be sexual, jkshfjfghjfd. Romance storylines are boring, partially because they're usually so contrived, and partially because they're so predictable - oh, attractive man, attractive woman, I wonder if there will be a romance storyline here, how unsurprising and heteronormative. (I'll be especially annoyed about this if they treat the angels as not only not-asexual, but gendered, even when that goes against prior canon - Castiel had no problem possessing Claire. Asexual and genderless characters? THAT'S something that feels new, and I'd hate for them to toss it and the family dynamics for same old same old.)

dude, when anyone says "oh, het pairing axb is so obvious, they should hook up in canon already" i feel like yelling "THAT IS NOT NECESSARILY A GOOD THING!" more so in this particular case, for the reasons you mention. it would reduce these two characters and their relationship to "just another romance" when they have other sides to them that are, in my opinion, much more interesting to explore. i'm always drawn to the familial/platonic m/f relationships in my fandoms and i'd love it if anna and cas went THAT route instead of the cliche romance.

THIS. I really like Anna and I really, really like her friendship/sibling relationship with Castiel, but I would just be bleurgh about a romance (and a contributing factor to that is how much something that codes as incestuous being treated as a loving pairing would squick me). I'm also drawn to platonic m/f relationships, be it familial or just friendship, and I think it's in part because they're so goddamn rare.

Imagine how I felt when, even after Kripke and co. had basically admitted in public that the Dean/Jo romance hadn't worked out because she was coming off as strongly sister-like, Dean decided to ogle Jo and hit on her in 5.10.
Frankly I think this show is subliminally obsessed with incest, even if they're obviously not down with the human incest action for srs.
