what
i typed up a pathetically long-winded and angry rant that started as one sentence about me being grossed out by completely innocent remus/tonks fanart and evolved into another of my typical late-night rambles, this time about personal squicks in fic and art and irrational pairing hate (oh, so much hate) that also ended up involving zelda and gundam wing. i saved it because i get a sick kick out of insulting fictional characters and pairings, but i don't think i'll post it, because it's a bit ridiculous really.

but still, lol @ me for not having anything better to do with my time.

haha I seriously wouldn't mind reading that rant! I used to think that there were only these basic type squicks in fanfic/art (like beastiality, non-con, etc)... but I'm finding more and more that everyone has a list of squicks that can get really random, and sometimes things that other people would consider normal or run of the mill. I think I'd get icked by the Remus/Tonks pairing in any fanart. It's really hard to find a pic of them I'd like.

and your icon is TOTALLY freaking me out... there goes my happy childhood memories ;)

really me too. i hate some of the popular slash pairings. i don't even have to read the fics to gross myself out: even seeing those pairings listed in the summary is enough to make my stomach lurch IRL. it's a weird kind of reaction.

idk, maybe i could say that they were good in the artistic sense (i can appreciate technique and such even if i don't like the subject matter), but that doesn't mean i'll look at them for longer than necessary before hitting the back button. i could go blind.

haha, icon reactions: i love them all.

I don't get such a strong reaction to fanfic/art of Remus/Tonks, mainly because I'm able to ignore the pairing for the artistic or literary merit. (though it still bugs me immensely) I did have the stomach lurch reaction EVERY SINGLE TIME Remus/Tonks was mentioned in the books. Seriously.

I nearly wept and put the book down, never to be read, when the first chapter mentioned they got married. GAH.

the marriage shocked me in a very bad way. i started suspecting right there that they were doomed as a couple, but since most of the r/t mentions in the book made it obvious that the relationship was completely messed up, the stomach-lurching was usually followed by snickering to myself with sadistic glee.

but see, as fucked up as the whole thing was, it was still preferable to a book full of displays of sappy love and a happy beautiful sparkly wedding and pink werewolf babies at the end of the book. i think i would have died of disgust.

I knew they were both doomed the moment Lupin announced the arrival of Teddy. I knew Remus was dead, but at that point they were both going to kick the bucket.

That is very true. I should be looking at the silver lining... a sappy 'perfect couple' romance (gag!) is sooooo much worse than a depressed/alcoholic/in-need-of-therapy!Remus and a oblivious/immature!Tonks who can't even see that her husband's unhappy to a WOAH degree. That did have me snickering. All those ships that were blasted apart by HBP's ending were coming back stronger and better than before with each frown on Lupin's tired face.

And I could never believe the 'pink werewolf babies' thing that exploded after HBP. Pink werewolf babies? what are they THINKING? That's just so wrong on so many levels.

(I heard the R/T shippers are making themselves feel better about the deaths by proclaiming DH as the 'year of romance' or love or somesuch. "At least they had a year together! and a BABY! (which somehow = happiness and the goal of life)" PHAH. Did they not see the painful scene at the wedding? Those two had ISSUES)

sorry. I"m rambling.

*snort* dude, i don't know what they were smoking, but that sure wasn't ROMANCE. someone on a forum, can't remember which one, pointed out that he never speaks of her with anything resembling love or even fondness. just because remus went back to tonks (and he had to be told off to do it), it doesn't mean all the problems went away.
maybe it's my belief that he wasn't really in love with her and just married her out of desperation (and probably drunkenness, lol), but i think things were pretty strained until they died. and having a kid solves nothing at all. specially if it's an oops baby like teddy.

i was pretty annoyed that he ended up being a metamorfgjsthing too. aren't they supposed to be super-rare? it was probably to make him extra special and cute.

speking of, how could remus just NOT KNOW if lycanthropy was hereditary or not?! that's just ridiculous. i-- i just can't find a rational explanation for that.

god, i'm getting a little long-winded. again. sorry.

I know! If he loved her even a little bit, even as a friend, there would at LEAST be fondness there. But no. Just bitterness and confusion (and drunkenness). Teddy was definitely an oops baby, and I'm of the opinion it was a shot-gun wedding.

I was always of the opinion that matamorfiogaoing is very, very rare. I think of it as a recessive gene thing. So it never made sense that Teddy'd be one. That makes me wonder how Tonks was one when neither of her parents were, and so forth. It was just to make Teddy a mini-Lupin (because of the name) and a mini-TOnks (the metamogsthing) so the fans wouldn't feel so bad. Or something.

That was one of the MAJOR issues I had with DH, even though it was just a small detail. It's just, JKR set up this wonderful world and this (among many other things) showed that she couldn't really follow her own rules and standards. That's disappointing.

I also refuse to believe Remus was THAT uncertain about the hereditary thing. Normal anxieties I could possibly believe (even if you're told for certain, sometimes you just have to see it to believe). But outright despondancy? Come on...

Feel free to get long winded. I'm getting long winded as well. I'm seriously considering typing up an essay or something dissecting the Remus/Tonks thing. It might help my frustration.

i'm laughing so much at the idea of drunk!remus. poor man. [livejournal.com profile] fera_festiva said in her chapter-by-chapter DH "analysis" (i reccomend it. there's much lulz to be had) that remus was perpetually drunk throughout the book, and it makes sense, really.

It was just to make Teddy a mini-Lupin (because of the name) and a mini-TOnks (the metamogsthing) so the fans wouldn't feel so bad.

yeah, i think that's it. that and to say "see? he was just so worried but his baby ended up being extra-special!! it was stupid and wrong to worry!", etc.

i'm also having fun at our combined butchering of the word metamufuglasg.

well, you could say that he was leaving her for other reasons and the werewolf angst was just a convincing excuse, but that's too fanwanky i think.

it just gets me because, come ON, if it *was* hereditary, it would have been mentioned somewhere! means of transmission of a disease is basic information! specially with one as bad and well-known as this one. the way i read it, it just sounded that remus just had no idea, not that he *knew* there was a chance it could happen because, i don't know, he read it somewhere, or something. how can that kind of information just... not exist?

the stupidity of it just frustrates me so much. we're told that it's *only* transmitted by a bite, and then out of nowhere OH HEY MAYBE NOT!

augh.

if you write the essay, i hope you don't get flamed too much. XD i saw on your LJ that you took a beating with the one you wrote about the symbolism in the final battle. :D

haha that "analysis" rocks! She makes a lot of good points in a very funny way. (I'm especially adoring her Star Wars references!)

hmmm if you take it EVEN FURTHER (*gasp* daring, I know)... JKR is telling kids "don't worry about STDs and such... you'll get to have extra cool babies!"

I highly doubt Remus would ever use the werewolf issues to cover something else. He wants too much to be seen as normal that he would go out of his way to find an excuse NOT dealing with the werewolf stuff.

I know! And it can't be that there's never been that kind of situation before. I'm sure that in the entire history of werewolves there must have been at least ONE horny guy unable to keep it in his pants. Unless it's all just a conspiracy to make werewolves believe they can pass it on so that they don't start breeding or whatever.

I'll probably get some backlash, but oh well. I'd expect it of a Remus/Tonks issue. The last essay wasn't so much a 'beating' as it was people getting defensive about Snape and me getting frustrated. I'll take on Remus/Tonks flamers... but I don't think I'll ever touch snape again with a ten foot pole! :)

Unless it's all just a conspiracy to make werewolves believe they can pass it on so that they don't start breeding or whatever.

and even then it wouldn't work, you'd still have the greyback-types that either don't give a crap about infecting anyone or do it on purpose.

but I don't think I'll ever touch snape again with a ten foot pole! :)

oh, i hope you don't touch him. grease is kind of hard to clean off. okay, enough lame jokes. but yeah. sensitive subject, hahah. seems like you can't say anything bad about him without someone jumping at you to "defend" him. okaaay.

True. But now you've given me the image of Greyback in the type of situation that would result in a baby. EWWW. *scrubs brain*

You know, I kinda miss the old days... when Snape was just a greasy bastard who you weren't sure which side he was on. Oh the simplicity of that. You could make negative statements and people who disagreed would actually make intellegent discussions about it.

well like i said, it started as r/t but soon degenerated into an unintelligible mess spanning several pairings in three fandoms, that make me want to hurt small animals.

but the original point (r/t is fucking gross) still stands.

Your icon is FUCKING SCARY.

me being grossed out by completely innocent remus/tonks fanart

"Ew who needs to see this" kind of reaction? No worries; me too. Also, I feel this way about Harry/Cho. I had to look away during a certain moment of the OotP movie.

personal squicks in fic and art and irrational pairing hate (oh, so much hate)

Heck, I'd be interested to see this, personally... yay for personal, well-contained wank? maybe?

"Ew who needs to see this" kind of reaction?
well, a bit of that too, but i get irrationally angry and my stomach twists itself into knots of burning hate. it's weird.

was it the kiss? it made me so uncomfortable. it was so long, too. at some point during that scene i started making snoring noises at my friend.

haha i don't knooow. it's embarrassing. it's not too wanky, i don't think, but it's still silly.
