Ain’t no bitches in Azkaban,
But you don’t wanna screw, so you don’t give a damn,
No, there ain’t no bitches in Azkaban.
That’s the little song Sirius sings to cheer Remus up when he visits. It’s not a pleasant place, and he can see Remus nearly in tears and trying to hide it. And Remus is impressed that he made up a song by himself, with a tune and all, so that keeps him distracted for the rest of the hour. Though Sirius thinks he’ll probably cry a bit on the bus home, not so’s anyone would notice, of course.
Sirius says it’s okay, he’ll be out soon. Wait and see! Remus believes him, because what else is he to do? He’ll go home to the tiny council flat and think he’ll get the place neat and tidy for Sirius. It’s already scrubbed and clean, because Remus is good like that. He likes order. That’s one thing about Sirius not being home, the flat doesn’t get cluttered. But Remus knows he’d rather have the mess, and Sirius, if he had a choice.
(...)
He’s got his fortnightly visits to look forward to, of course, though sometimes the moon interferes and he doesn’t see Sirius for a bit longer. It’s a long trip, three hours on the bus, then the ferry ride he hates, as it makes him feel sick. But it’s all worth it to see his Sirius, looking skinny and haunted, but alive. They can’t touch through the glass barriers, but Sirius will give his big grin and put his hand on the glass, and Remus will put his hand on top of it, on the other side. And it does seem almost like they’re touching. Then Remus might feel a bit tearful, so Sirius will sing his little Azkaban song again, which always makes both of them smile.

i hope you like it, minnow! i love your AU fics, so i did a little mental dance when you said that they could be a possibility. :] ♥ i almost went with "no man's land", but the image of sirius singing to remus through the glass hit me like a sledgehammer.
