was just looking at the mod post [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup put up and i think i'll going to give it a miss this year too. :/ it looks so intimidating. i was considering it because i was thinking that i'm a really lousy shipper because i never participate in any of the ship-related fests and activities (big bang was an exception), and that i'll never stop feeling like an outsider in the ship if i don't just go ahead and jump into it (because that's all it takes, really), but... well. maybe i could do [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays next year instead. a competition-style fest still feels like too much to handle.

in other news... AAAAAAH HOLY FUCK D:

oh god it can't be 7:30 pm already. i haven't even showered.

If you find fests intimidating, you could start with something that's based on prompt claiming, where you aren't writing for a specific person. Gift fic exchanges like hd_hols come with a bit more pressure, because you'll know that you're supposed to produce something for a specific person. (It's the kind I personally enjoy most, but that's totally a matter of taste.) I've only once accepted an invitation to a competition-style fest, and I realised very quickly that this wasn't my thing at all, so I'm definitely never going to enter one again. If you want to give fests a try, just find the level you're comfortable with, but remember, there's no "obligation" to participate in fests - there are great writers who never do. Fests are supposed to be fun, mothing else ;)

actually, i've no problem with person-specific exchanges. they're nearly the only kind i've done, and i've enjoyed them. [livejournal.com profile] rs_small_gifts is sort of half-and-half, the sign up is done in the traditional style of anon exchanges, only you go and pick your own person. that was my first fest experience and it sort of eased the way for the rest, so to speak. i did [livejournal.com profile] hp_yule_balls and (after a bit of deadline-related hesitation) i'm feeling pretty confident with [livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut. besides there's the added fact that i love drawing for people.

competitions... well, they're a totally different thing. i'd be willing to give them a shot in the future, but right now i still feel like the "awkward new kid at school" in the harry/draco fandom.

anything I can do to make it less intimidating to you? It really isn't as crazy as it sounds, I promise

Well, as one of the mods, if there is anything I/we can do to lure you to the HD_worldcup (feeling like the "awkward new kid @ school" doesn't fadge, sorry), please let me/us know. Anything that needs explaining, or clarifying, just ask away. :D

The rules have not been changed much, actually, just that they follow the point system of Quidditch, and your entire time votes on your extension, if you want any -- those are the really major changes this time round, besides the prompts, of course.

It would be lovely to have you around, if you decide to change your mind.
