- i'm munching on awesome cookies from my favorite cookie store. om nom nom.

- [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan. i'd love to sign up, but seeing as i STILL haven't finished my help_chile commission, that would be very irresponsible of me. but if you do have time and aren't a horrible procrastinator like me, please consider helping out! :)

- [livejournal.com profile] aldehyde wrote a post detailing her thoughts on the anon meme, which mirror mine pretty closely. it's worth a read if you're interested in (civil) discussion, as there are people from both sides of the fence weighing in with their own opinions.

- i bought pretty bracelets! :D

- i haven't played RE4 in nearly two weeks, because i'm getting close to the last chapter and i don't want the game to end... so i've stopped playing. i'm not the only one who does that... am i?

- post-apocalyptic tokyo scenery, a series of stunning digital paintings that's making me want to reread "the world without us". thanks to [livejournal.com profile] piperdox for linking to this.

- my youngest sister is playing twilight princess. she's the only one who has expressed an interest in my favorite videogame series ever. I'M SO PROUD. :')

- planning a meet up with [livejournal.com profile] aldehyde and [livejournal.com profile] fera_festiva, hopefully at some point next year. i anticipate this will be a challenge, seeing as we both live in different continents and i've never been out of the country on my own, but i'm quite confident it will happen. unless i get lost in the airport or something. D:

- herp derp.

• how was today's merlin episode? tbh, merlin's pastede-on-yay twu wuv is kind of keeping me from watching it.

• i woke up at fucking 3 o'clock in the afternoon today. i really needed the rest after running on 3 to 4 hours of sleep per night this week, but still, i HATE waking up so late in the day. :|

• this afternoon, after weeks of trying and months of giving up afterwards, i played mario kart wii again and FINALLY got a star ranking in the mirror star cup. bitch'd given me so many problems before it almost made me cry with frustration. but NO. i made a glorious come-back.

• i've been stuck browsing http://jodi.org/ like an idiot since thursday. I AM NOT ANY LESS CONFUSED THAN WHEN I STARTED- I NEVER KNOW WHERE I'M GOING TO END UP.

HELLO NEW FRIENDS FROM THE HELLATUS FRIENDING MEME! make yourselves comfortable. feel free to introduce yourselves a bit more extensively. :D i would also like to direct your attention to this poll, concerning a fic/art challenge that i'm thinking of running in a couple more months. :]

check this shit out

• this is mostly for [livejournal.com profile] gryffindor_j's benefit, because she likes the pairing but she's being ~difficult~ about joining the fandom: [livejournal.com profile] deancastielnews! a newsletter for all things dean/cas.

ANDREAS FUCKING GURSKY. i'd seen a few of his photos before but i'd never known they were his. i seriously love what he does with scale and angles, how he turns humanity and its constructions into a mass of inhuman lines and colors and textures. the result is amazing, and downright scary at times. you can read a bit about his work and see some other images here. here's one more photo, one of the bigger ones i could find )

michael wesely

postdamer platz project

"With up to two-year long exposures Michael Wesely documented the construction being done at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin between 1997 and 1999. The project was commissioned by DaimlerChrysler. The images were taken from five different camera positions and transform the chronological sequences of the construction activity into one simultaneous action, whereby an infinite number of individual moments overlap until they form a complex structure of fragments of reality. Before and after fuse together in that the previously, undeveloped horizon is still visible through the newly constructed buildings. This confuses our visual understanding. The massive constructions seem almost transparent, yet the rays of sun in the sky documenting the various seasonal positions of the sun, gain a surprising level of materiality.

larger images under cut )

he also has some still life works i liked. they document the life cycle of tulips from blossoming to decay.

and now i'm going back to bed.

• i have a question for those of you who write/draw for [livejournal.com profile] daily_deviant: can you talk freely about your assignment or does it have to be like, top sekrit bizness?

• i installed objectdock yesterday! i haven't gotten very far with the customization yet, but i like how it looks so far.

• via [livejournal.com profile] abandonedplaces: abandoned russian fortress with melted brick icicles. some people have pointed out that these may not really be melted bricks for several reasons, but even if they're not, they still make amazing photos.

• check out these lovely r/s pieces by [livejournal.com profile] davidychus: 1, 2. very expressive cartoonish style.

i need to go make my bed now. man, i HATE making my bed. i think i'll just sleep on top of the covers until winter.

i briefly emerge from the realm of the almost-dead (and the almost-internet-less) to bring you some recs.

rooftop by [livejournal.com profile] anna_bm (PG)
"If I were to fancy one of you guys, would that count as incest?"
remus and sirius on a rooftop, not-confessing they fancy each other. lovely, cute yet not fluffy, subtle.

sfumato by [livejournal.com profile] anna_bm (r/s, PG-13)
"When Sirius eventually comes out, there are dark smudges on his fingertips and sides of his hands, sometimes even on his face."
artist!sirius and model!remus. again with the wonderful subtlety, this time gradually turning more and more sensual.

and an original art rec:

The Assassin by *sketchbook.

just stunning. handles sharpness and softness so very well and an amazing use of color and textures, both photo- and brush-based that make the image feel half-figurative, half-abstract. i'm so in love with the detail on the gun.

and a rec, because despite all the shit flooding dA, you can always find a few gems every once in a while: numennu

recs

my two latest favorites on dA.

mendigo_06 by Cabyrus. (photography)

I love that this is essentially a snapshot, but still manages great lighting and contrasts. it tells quite the interesting story and i like that the photographer kept the partial framing of the window the pic was taken through.

Chocolate Placebo by Rhysenn-M. (fanart, remus/sirius)

Fantastic shading and facial features on both of them (i'm v. fond of their noses here!) I'm not sure what to make of their expressions and the way remus is being held and fed (looks slightly forceful/violent), but technique-wise, it's a beauty.

• holy shit man, Aceilux is FINISHED. This was the only Zelda fic I was still reading, and now I'm feeling all... sad and stuff. Because it's over. ;__; What shall I dooo. The Link/Sheik comm is sort of dead and I don't love L/S as much as I used to, so almost none of the fics that get posted interest me. Oh well. :/

• I updated the rec list. It went from 184 fics to 196 (plus 2 pieces of art). Some are new, some not. Obviously I had forgot to look in some places. :]

I just finished the first painting for my oil painting class. I still sort of hate using oils (I always start out well, but then it gets so fucking tedious), but the painting didn't turn out that bad. It's a reproduction of one of Beksinski's paintings. I'll post it when it's dry (along with a link to the original for humiliating comparative purposes, of course).

pictures of flowers are kind of boring

ps. http://www.beksinski.pl/ <--- one of my favorite artists *points at icon*. pretty sure there are no flowers there.
